Candlemas Beeswax Votive Candles

This listing is for hand poured small batch 100% pure beeswax votive candles inspired by The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple & The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary also known as Candlemas.

This is a traditional feast that includes a blessing of the candles, which must be of beeswax. It is also the 4th Joyful Mystery of the Rosary. Blessed votive candles are traditionally used on Catholic home altars during prayer time. Votive candles are often used for specific intentions or prayers, such as for healing, protection, or guidance. **These candles are NOT blessed. It is buyers responsibility to get their purchased candles blessed.**

These 2oz votive candles burn on average for 12-15 hours each, and come in a set of 2, 4, or 6. The candles are approximately 2” tall and 1 1/2” wide at the base. The glass votive jar measures 2 1/2” tall with a nice thick bottom. All sets include at least one modern votive glass jar for burning- please select the quantity you would like at checkout. The glass jars are meant to hold your votive refills. **It is important that you light your votives inside the jar only- this will contain the wax pool while allowing for the longest and most efficient burn time.**

How to reuse your jar :

Once your votive candle is finished burning, simply remove the metal wick tab and any remaining wax while it is still soft or melted with a paper towel- please use caution if wax and jar are still hot!

If your remaining beeswax has already hardened, you may place your glass jar in an oven set no higher than 180 degrees and wait for your wax to melt before wiping the glass clean with a paper towel. Your glass is now ready for a refill!

Your jars will be labeled with the traditional Antiphon which is recited or sung at the feast of Candlemas during the blessing of the candles- taken from the words of Simeon in the temple when he took Jesus into his arms. You may choose English, Latin, or leave your jar blank- please select your choice when adding to cart.

Candle Care Instructions :

• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Allow the first burn to form a complete melt pool before extinguishing. (approx. 2 hours)
• Always burn your votive beeswax candle in the supplied glass jar. The jar is used to contain the wax pool and allow for the longest burn time.
• Trim wick 1/4” to 1/8” short each time before lighting.
• Keep away from children, pets, and flammable objects such as curtains.
• Do not burn longer than 3-4 hours at a time.
• Extinguish the flame with a snuffer or by dipping the wick into the wax pool with a metal object- this will eliminate the chance of soot build-up and smoke.
• Remove all wax and debris from your candle jar before replacing with a new votive refill.
